Image result for touchstone newspaper

Now the NZ Methodist newspaper Touchstone has arrived.

An article the editor commissioned from me is presented alongside an edited version of the negative and misleading statement from the Inter Church Bioethics Council. This time its awkward disclaimer that "some members" would not agree with their submission has been edited out. But the implication remains that the Council's submission carries some weight in the Church. The question remains:  What body in the Methodist Church gave them permission to make a submission?

Of course, they could be said to be an answer to my article on the other side. It is no doubt clear that I speak for myself. But it is not so clear that the ICBC speak just for themselves, not for the Churches to whom they are responsible.

Happily, a very good edit of the Faith and Order Committee's report is presented above both of us and perhaps thinking Methodists will realise that the Church does not have a mind on the matter. Like most of the rest of us, they will have to think for themselves...
